Issue

  • On ONTAP 9 systems using FabricPool, excessive idle connections to object storage can accumulate, especially on high-core platforms like AFF-A1K. This can lead to system resource exhaustion, performance issues, and EMS events such as ktls.cnxnHandshakeLimit.

To address this, the proposed change (CONTAP-583720) will:
  • Enable the cloudio_should_reduce_connection feature by default. This allows ONTAP to automatically reduce extra FabricPool connections when they are no longer needed.
  • Introduce a boot argument so administrators can persistently toggle this behavior as needed.
