Issue

  • Snapshots on FlexVols or FlexGroup constituent volumes display a logical ID of 0.
  • In this scenario, the snapshots with logical ID 0 reside on the source volume for a SnapMirror relationship.
  • When the snapshots with logical ID 0 are transferred before WAFL garbage collection, the invalid snapshots can lead to SnapMirror scheduled update failures.  Example errors:

Failed to complete transfer of snapshot [snapshot ID] to destination [sm_dest_SVM:dest_vol] because the destination is prepared for the transfer of a different snapshot. Run "snapmirror resync" or "snapmirror abort -hard" to cleanup the checkpoint and issue the operation again.
Failed to start transfer for Snapshot copy [snapshot name].(Failed to start transfer.(Snapshot access error(Replication engine error)))

  • The scheduled update failures require manual intervention (refer to the Workaround section).

  • ONTAP may report a Stale file handle error when accessing the snapshots with logical ID 0
