Applies to

  • MetroCluster IP
  • Dual 40/100G Ethernet T62100-CR network card P/N X1146A
  • Affected port connected to shared MetroCluster/Cluster network switches

Issue

  • Multiple AutoSupport HA Group Notification (HA INTERCONNECT DOWN) ALERTs
  • SYSCONFIG -A AutoSupport section or ONTAP Command Line Interface (CLI) output  ::> system node run -node node_name -command sysconfig -a show one of the T6 card ports "down". Example:
slot 1: Dual 40/100G Ethernet T62100-CR
e1a MAC Address:    00:00:00:00:00(auto-100g_sr4-fd-up)
    QSFP Vendor:         FINISAR CORP
    QSFP Part Number:    FTLC9558REPM
    QSFP Serial Number:  A12b3CD
e1b MAC Address:    00:10:00:00:00(auto-unknown-fd-down)
    QSFP Vendor:
    QSFP Part Number:
    QSFP Serial Number:
  • AutoSupport IFSTAT-A section or ONTAP CLI output "::> system node run -node node_name -command ifstat e1b"    may show incrementing CRC errors on that port or "Media state: no carrier" with a high number of  "Up to downs"
    • ifconfig -vvv AutoSupport section or ONTAP CLI output for  ::> system node run -node node_name -command ifconfig -vvv detects the transceiver but with the "no carrier" status.
  • ONTAP CLI output for  ::> metrocluster interconnect show -partner-type HA in offline state
    • Connected switch port might also get disabled
  • Example of ONTAP events for this scenario:

... [node_name: intr: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e1b: Link down, check cable.
... [node_name: nchmd: hm.alert.raised:alert]: Alert Id = MccIp_PortOfflineAlert , Alerting Resource = node_name_t6nex1_e1b raised by monitor node-connect
... [node_name: mgwd: callhome.hm.alert.major:alert]: Call home for Health Monitor process nchm: MccIp_PortOfflineAlert[node_name_t6nex1_e1b].

  • In some scenarios a flapping port situation may be exhibited. Example:

... [node_name: intr: netif.linkUp:info]: Ethernet e1b: Link up.
... [node_name: intr: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e1b: Link down, check cable.
... [node_name: intr: netif.linkUp:info]: Ethernet e1b: Link up.
... [node_name: intr: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e1b: Link down, check cable.
... [node_name: intr: netif.linkUp:info]: Ethernet e1b: Link up.
... [node_name: nchmd: hm.alert.cleared:notice]: Alert Id = MccIp_PortOfflineAlert , Alerting Resource = node_name_t6nex1_e1b cleared by monitor node-connect
