WAFL INCONSISTENT USER BLOCK errors after snapshot deletion and resync during space exhaustion

Issue

  • SnapMirror fails due to space exhaustion on the DR (destination) volume
  • SnapMirror destination volume is a DP-type volume 
  • SnapMirror relationship is broken (snapmirror break)
  • SnapMirror destination snapshots are deleted to free space (volume snapshot delete)
  • SnapMirror break/SnapMirror resync/SnapMirror abort operations are performed in sequence
  • Space is not released immediately after snapshot deletion
  • After space is released, the following error occurs on the destination volume:

WAFL INCONSISTENT USER BLOCK

  • snapshot show on the affected volume returns:

Info: Unable to get information for Snapshot copies of volume "XXX" on VserverXXX "XXX". Reason: Unexpected error.

  • SnapMirror resync fails with:

LastTransferError: Failed to get Snapshot copy list for volume XXX:XXX. (Operation now in progress)

  • EMS logs report multiple wafl.raid.incons.buf:error and wafl.buf.badHeader:EMERGENCY events
