Should Mediator IP address belong to Intercluster or Cluster subnet in SM-BC configuration?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9.X
- SM-BC
Answer
-
ONTAP Mediator is installed in a third failure domain, separate from the two ONTAP clusters, and is present to establish consensus across a three-party quorum for:
• Primary ONTAP cluster hosting the SM-BC primary CG
• Secondary ONTAP cluster hosting the mirror CG
• ONTAP Mediator - The Mediator IP should be reachable from both Source Site A and Destination Site B irrespective of IP subnet.
- It is recommended that the Mediator should be part of default IP space and should be pingable from both source and destination clusters.
