Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.X
  • SM-BC

Answer

  • ONTAP Mediator is installed in a third failure domain, separate from the two ONTAP clusters, and is present to establish consensus across a three-party quorum for:
    • Primary ONTAP cluster hosting the SM-BC primary CG
    • Secondary ONTAP cluster hosting the mirror CG
    • ONTAP Mediator

  • The Mediator IP should be reachable from both Source Site A and Destination Site B irrespective of IP subnet.
  • It is recommended that the Mediator should be part of default IP space and should be pingable from both source and destination clusters.
