Answer

  • Yes, it is recommended to quiesce all SnapMirror jobs before starting an upgrade to prevent conflicts and potential failures.
snapmirror quiesce -destination-path <vserver:volume>
  • When SnapMirror is in an idle state, it is simply waiting for the next scheduled transfer.
  • If that scheduled time occurs during an ONTAP upgrade, the transfer may fail — particularly if the HA partner node is paused or unavailable.
Notes:
  • Quiescing prevents transfers from starting while nodes are in the upgrade process.
  • Resume SnapMirror only after the upgrade is complete and the cluster is fully stable.
