CONTAP-635436: Cannot add 9.17.1+ nodes into an existing 9.16.1P10+ cluster

Issue

  • When attempting to join a new node running ONTAP 9.17.1 and later to an existing cluster running ONTAP 9.16.1P10 an later, the operation fails with one of the following errors:

Error: command failed: The currently running image on this node lacks the following capabilities which are installed on other nodes in the cluster: sm_cg_restart_enabled
This node must be upgraded to 9.16.1P10 or a later release or the cluster
must be downgraded to the release version of this node.
