SVM-scoped NDMP fails to establish data connection

Issue

  • The backup or restore requires a network connection to exchange data between the DMA (example, Commvault) and the NetApp system (Indirect or 3-way topology)
  • The backup or restore fails/aborts with a network-related error.
  • Examples of errors that might accompany this issue, and can be found in a ndmpd debug log: 
    • error 33 (ERROR: CONNECT FAILED)
    • NDMP Connect: Unable to Connect to <data_connect_address> due to Connection timed out
    • ERROR: NDMP Vserver Connect: couldn't find any appropriate preferred local src IP address
    • NDMP Connect: Unable to Connect to <data_connect_address> due to Network is unreachable
    • Client [svm_] was unable to connect to the tape server [server] on IP(s) [xx.xx.xx.xx, yy.yy.yy.yy, zz.zz.zz.zz] port [####]. Please check the network connectivity.
