Is it possible not to set clear text as a password for NDMP?

Answer

  • The NDMP password should not be mistaken with the NDMP user password itself
  • When NDMP user is created, the password is for the authentication of the user 
  • The password, generated by the following command, is used for the service itself.
    • ::> vserver services ndmp generate-password  vserver <vserver_name>  user <user_name>
  • This is the password for the NDMP service
  • This password is set as plane text and there is no alternative
  • This password can't be used for malicious intent
