Applies to

  • Cisco Catalyst C9300X series switches

Issue

  • After ONTAP upgrade, several network ports on one or more nodes failed to come online
  • The affected ports showed a status similar to:
    • auto-unknown-fd-down or down      1500  auto/-    -
  • Example output from network port show:

Node: Node1
Port   IPspace   BroadcastDomain  Link   MTU   Admin/Oper   Status
---------------------------------------------------------------
e1a    Default   file            down   1500  auto/-       -
e1b    Default   vm              down   9000  auto/-       -
e2a    Default   mgmt            down   1500  auto/-       -
e2b    Default   rep             down   1500  auto/-       -

  • Physical inspection confirmed that cables and SFPs were operational
  • Moving the same cable and port to a different switch or switch port brought the link up
  • The issue was isolated to specific ports on Cisco Catalyst C9300X switches
