Cisco Switch NX3232C Panicked after RCF upgrade from 1.6 to 1.8

Issue

  • Cluster network switch 1 panic after switch 2 had it's RCF file upgraded from 1.6 to 1.8
  • Issue may also be faced during an NX-OS upgrade
  • EMS logs show:
    • cshmd: hm.alert.raised:alert]: Alert Id = ClusterIfIslDownWarn_Alert
    • cshmd: hm.alert.raised:alert]: Alert Id = ClusterSwitchMissing_Alert
  • Switch 1 show tech-support logs:
    • Port channel 1 down (No operational members)
    • Interfaces belonging to port channel 1 down (suspended (no LACP PDUs))
    • Last reset at 207919 usecs after Sun Jan 16 01:23:50 2022
      Reason: Kernel Panic
      System version: 9.3(7)
    • nxos_panic: Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception
  • Switch 1 rebooted and no further issue with port channel 1
