CRC errors and port down on port e7a

Issue

After a hardware refresh and MetroCluster IP 4-8-4 transition, persistent CRC errors and link flapping were observed on cluster interconnect port e7a on nodes mc-netapp-a04 and mc-netapp-b04 at both sites. The following log messages were repeatedly seen:

Mon Aug 17 09:11:28 +0200 [mc-netapp-a04: kernel: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e7a: Link down, check cable.
Mon Aug 17 09:11:28 +0200 [mc-netapp-a04: intr: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e7a-18: Link down, check cable.

8/20/2026 15:41:31 mc-netapp-b04 ERROR vifmgr.port.monitor.failed: The "crc_errors" healthcheck for port e7a (node mc-netapp-b04) has failed. The port is operating in a degraded state.
8/20/2026 13:43:41 mc-netapp-b04 EMERGENCY vifmgr.clus.linkdown: The cluster port e7a on node mc-netapp-b04 has gone down unexpectedly.

Additional symptoms:

  • Frequent “crc_errors healthcheck” failures in EMS logs.
  • Link flapping and degraded cluster interconnect health.
  • SFPs and cables had already been replaced without effect.
  • Errors persisted even after port disables and resets.
