Faulty port in Brocade/Broadcom switch

Issue

  • VMware corruption may occur with flapping switch port causing FC frame drops on target ports.
    • esxcli storage san fc events get
    • tail –f /var/log/vmkernel.log
  • ONTAP events indicating instability in the FC conenction
    • event log show -event *fct* -time < 10m
  • FC switch port is in an 'Offline' state:

  • Link reset errors in the switch logs

BrocadeG620,  Link Reset on PortS0,P01(0) vc_no=2 crd(s)lost=1104 auto trigger.
  • When plugging the SFP into a different port, it works as normal
  • When plugging a known good SFP into this port, it does not work
  • On the switch side, the SFP power range is abnormal:
RX Power:    -2.4    dBm (571.4uW)
TX Power:    -inf    dBm (0.0  uW)
