Replacement E-Series E2800 controller goes into reboot loop and locks down with OE LU status

  • NetApp E-Series
  • E2800/EF280 controllers
  • Original controller(s) running 11.30.x SANtricity OS
  • Replacement controller running 11.70.3 or newer

Issue

  • After replacing E2800/EF280 controller in a 11.30.x setup, the replacement controller reboot loops after attempting to auto synchronize (ACS) its SANtricity OS to match the original controller (11.30.x). 
  • The following messages are logged right before reboot, which indicate the controller is attempting to ACS its firmware:

07/21/22-19:25:16 (tRAID): NOTE:  ACS coordinating with baseOS to allocate buffer
07/21/22-19:25:16 (tRAID): NOTE:  ACS processing downgrade - waiting on semaphore
07/21/22-19:25:40 (sntpEventTask): NOTE:  sntpEventHandler:SOD not complete; skipping NTP sync.
