Frequent iSCSI disconnects from VMware host to E-Series storage array

Issue

  • E-Series MEL events report frequent iSCSI disconnects to VMware host(s):
    • Session terminated unexpectedly - iqn.1998-01.com.vmware:vmwareX.xxxxx.xxx
  • VMware kernel logs simultaneously report:
    • Connection reset by peer
  • Frequency of events increase with I/O. The more IOPS, the more disconnects are observed.
  • The E-Series array is optimal with no hardware events indicating any issue with storage array.
