E-Series Controller cache battery failed even after applying the latest firmware

Applies to

  • NetApp E-Series
  • StorageGRID Appliances
  • SANtricity OS 11.50.3x or later is installed
  • A manual battery learn cycle was recently completed

Issue

  • In E-Series AutoSupport bundle (MAJOR-EVENT-LOG) or system events, a Controller cache battery failed with:
730f Incomplete battery learn cycle - Shelf XX, Controller X, Bay X - 32C, 7.44V, 8850mAH
210a Controller cache not enabled or was internally disabled - Shelf XX, Bay X - Event: BAD BBU,Controller not Optimal,Battery Unusable-0
3101 Asynchronous event notification (AEN) posted for recently logged event - Shelf XX, Bay X
----> Sense 6/3f/c7 = Unit Attention - Non-media Component Failure
----> FRU group: Subsystem; Tray ID: XX, Type : Nonvolatile Cache, State: Failed
210c Controller cache battery failed - Shelf XX, Controller X, Bay X - 32C, 7.42V, 8850mAH <--CRITICAL
  • When AutoSupport is enabled, it will generate an event with: 

E-Series Notification from Unnamed (Controller cache battery failed) CRITICAL
