E-series storage array reports a controller is removed while it is actually inserted

Issue

  • The controller is physically present in the slot, and the controller chassis displays an amber light.
  • All the lights on the affected controller are turned off including the Seven-segment display.
  • There is no serial output from the affected controller.
  • The Recovery Guru reports:
    • Controller Removed
    • Drive Tray - Loss of Path Redundancy
    • Battery Missing
    • Volume Not On Preferred Path
    • REMOVED_CONTROLLER
    • DRAWER_DEGRADED
    • NON_PREFERRED_PATH
    • DRAWER_DEGRADED
    • REMOVED_BATTERY
    • WB_CACHING_FORCIBLY_DISABLED
    • NO_REDUNDANCY_TRAY
  • The Major Event log shows multiple instances of this pattern:
    • Temperature sensor removed
    • Controller removed
    • Degraded wide port becomes failed
    • Controller wide port has gone to failed state
    • Drive tray path redundancy lost
    • Dedicated mirror channel failed
    • Start-of-day routine begun
    • Start-of-day routine completed
