Applies to

  • NetApp E-Series and EF-Series storage arrays
  • SANtricity System Manager
  • Dynamic Disk Pools (DDP)
  • Drive firmware upgrades from Support > Upgrade Center

Answer

Drive firmware is written to drive and does not allocate capacity from disk pool. DISK_POOL_UTILIZATION_CRITICAL Failure type 426 does not by itself block drive firmware download.
  • Confirm this is only utilization critical:
    • Open Recovery Guru and confirm only relevant entry is DISK_POOL_UTILIZATION_CRITICAL with failure type 426.
    • Confirm pool and target drives are Optimal.
    • Confirm Operations in Progress shows no reconstruction, copyback, or other exclusive operations.
    • Confirm reserved / preservation capacity is intact.

Additional Information

Firmware upgrade does not clear DISK_POOL_UTILIZATION_CRITICAL Failure type  426. Reduce used capacity below critical threshold, or change threshold if remaining free capacity is accepted:

  • Add compatible drives to the pool
  • Delete unused volumes or snapshot objects
  • Change warning / critical thresholds in Pools & Volume Groups
