  • ONTAP version 9.19.1AFX
  • Systems reporting “Sysfan3F2 has failed” or similar chassis fan errors

Issue

Node1 repeatedly reported a critical chassis fan failure for Sysfan3F2, even after replacing the fan module. ONTAP logs and sensor outputs indicated the following:

[Node 1:statd:monitor.fan.failed:alert]: One fan has failed: Sysfan3F2.
[Node 1:env_mgr:monitor.chassisFan.stop:error]: Chassis fan contains at least one stopped fan: Sysfan3F2 Speed (900RPM)
[Node 1:env_mgr:monitor.chassisFan.degraded:alert]: Chassis fan is degraded: Sysfan3F2 Speed is spinning too slow (900RPM)
[Node 1:env_mgr:callhome.c.fan.fru.fault:error]: Callhome for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Sysfan3F2 Speed

Sensor output:

Sysfan3F2Speed    crit-low    900RPM

Despite a successful hardware swap, the error persisted in ONTAP and the fan speed remained reported as critically low.
