There are 3 types of licenses for SnapCenter and they are for 3 distinct functions within SnapCenter

License Type:

1. Standard Controller-Based:

  1. Used for FAS and AFF systems
  2. Licensed on the controller
  3. Part of the Premium Bundle
  4. SnapManager Suite license can be used

2. Standard Capacity-Based:

  1. Used for ONTAP Cloud and ONTAP Select
  2. SnapCenter server-base
  3. Capacity-based
  4. SnapCenter managed storage on primary
  5. Storage is considered "managed" when protected

3. NAS File Services Capacity-Based (SnapCenter 2.0 - 3.0.1 Only):

  1. SnapCenter server-based
  2. Capacity-based
  3. SnapCenter managed storage on primary
  4. Storage is considered "managed" when protected
  5. Standard license not required

Additional Information

Storage Type:

  1. FAS and/or AFF:
    1. Requires the Standard Controller-Base license
      • SnapManagerSuite license will work
      • SNAPCTR_STANDARD license is what will show on mysupport.netapp.com
        • Shows up on Storage as SnapMangerSuite

NOTE: This license is entered and stored on the Storage Controller

  1. ONTAP Cloud and/or ONTAP Select:
    1. Requires the Standard Capacity-Base License
      • SnapManager Suite license does not work

NOTE: This license is entered and stored in SnapCenter.
