Applies to

  • NetApp StorageGRID all versions
  • TCPDUMP packet trace

Description

For troubleshooting purposes it may be useful to capture (and examine) network traces.

Note: Mellanox nics perform hardware filtering. This means that errors seen in the ifconfig are already dropped on the hardware level, meaning its needed to perform a tcpdump on the switch or client layer. Software stack on the StorageGRID side will not see the hardware dropped frames.

Example: crc or oversized frames on HIC2 via ethtool output. Impossible to perform tcpdump on StorageGRID node itself to troubleshoot.
