Issue

StorageGRID reports the following alert and/or alarm:

  • Alarm: CCNA (Compute Controller Needs Attention)
  • Alert: "Appliance compute controller needs attention"
  • Alert:"A hardware fault has been detected"

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Identify if there are any hardware related components in a faulty state, refer to alerts reference and/or alarms reference
  2. Verify from the BMC interface if any error messages or entries exist in the BMC events. If Volt_PxV_BAT is observed, see StorageGRID alert Hardware fault has been detected in the computer controller for Volt_PxV_BAT
  3. When no errors are observered or have been checked/resolved, try clearing the BMC SEL log and rebooting the BMC to clear any false positive errors
  4. If rebooting the BMC did not clear the error, try to power drain the node:
    1. Shutdown the compute node and confirm that the node is powered down
    2. Disconnect the power cable.
    3. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes
    4. Reconnect the cables and power on the node
