Expansion fails on validate_hostnames: One or more hostnames were used multiple times

StorageGRID version 11.6 (pre 11.6.0.8)

Issue

Expansion of a StorageGRID site with new storage node(s) fails.
The GRID Manager GUI displays the error:

Error while generating the grid configuration. Failed to provision the grid. See gdu-server.log for more information.

The gdu-server.log shows an error similar to:

/usr/local/gator/11.6.0/lib/gator/gridconfig.rb:351:in `validate_hostnames': One or more hostnames were used multiple times: storage-node1,storage-node2,storage-node3,storage-node4,storage-node5,storage-node6 (RuntimeError)
