Why do StorageGRID nodes have uneven volumes utilization
Applies to
NetApp StorageGRID
Answer
StorageGRID places data according to the configured ILM policies and data protection requirements. While data is often distributed relatively evenly across nodes and storage volumes, this is not guaranteed and should not be considered an operational requirement. Various factors, including
- ILM behavior
- Object characteristics
- Storage pool configuration
- Data placement,
Above example may naturally result in uneven capacity utilization across nodes or volumes, even when the system is operating as designed and all ILM requirements are being met.
Additional Information
Example of some volumes are utilizing a significantly higher percentage of capacity than others:
/var/local/rangedb/2 = 98%/var/local/rangedb/3 = 98%/var/local/rangedb/4 = 97%/var/local/rangedb/0 = 32%/var/local/rangedb/1 = 33
