Applies to

  • NetApp SnapCenter Plug-in for Oracle 6.1
  • Oracle 19c databases on AIX 7.3.3.1
  • ONTAP 9.x (e.g., 9.12)
  • FCP-connected environments
  • Management and data traffic sharing the same LIF
  • Environments where SVMs were recently deleted and recreated

Issue

Oracle database backups initiated via SnapCenter intermittently fail at the “Creating Snapshot copy” activity. The following error is observed in SnapCenter job logs and ONTAP audit logs:

SnapCenter Job Log:

Activity 'Creating Snapshot copy' failed with error: CreateCGsnapshot '<snapshot_name>' failed: CG commit failed for SVM: <svm_name>, reason: Failed to save the consistency group. Error: Connection timed out

ONTAP Audit Log:

cg-commit::Error: Connection timed out

Backups for specific consistency groups (CGs) fail consistently, while others on the same SVM and LIF succeed. The failures occur across multiple clusters (e.g., SUNNADB, WDCNADB). No recent SnapCenter upgrades or environmental changes were reported. Restarting services on the affected clients temporarily resolves the issue.
