OTV 10.5 HA-mode deployments are consuming excessive storage space

Issue

  • A 3‑node OTV cluster installed and unutilized is using more than 1.5 TB of space
  • OTV's individual VM disks are growing to 230–270 GB per node
  • The filesystem utilization is relatively low as shown in the example below:

/ – 4.4 GB used of 50 GB

/opt – 36 GB used of 99 GB

/jail – 461 MB used of 89 GB

  • This indicates that the guest operating system is only using ~40–45 GB of disk space
  • vSphere reports that the VM is consuming ~361 GB on the datastore
