Answer

  • Discovery tasks are performed to discover resources and configurations of storage systems and to provide information to the vCenter Server.
  • This process can consume resources due to communication with storage arrays and collection of information.
  • When Discovery tasks are executed, a significant amount of information is exchanged between the storage system, which can potentially place a load on network and storage I/O, as well as vCenter Server resources.
  • In particular, when Discovery tasks process a large amount of data or when there are many objects in the storage system, the impact on the vCenter Server, ESXi hosts, and virtual machines can become more pronounced.
