How to configure VSC to discover storage using SVM credentials
Applies to
- Virtual Storage Console 9.x
- ONTAP 8.x and later
Answer
In order for Virtual Storage Console to discover storage using SVM credentials, the SVM must meet the following conditions:
- There is a management lif associated with the SVM.
- On ONTAP versions earlier than 9.6, a management lif is a lif with data access set to none, and firewall policy set to mgmt.
- On later versions, it's a management lif with a management service policy.
- There is an RBAC User created on the SVM.
- To configure RBAC for VSC 9.6 and lower, see Recommended ONTAP roles when using VSC for VMware vSphere.
- To configure RBAC for VSC 9.7 and later, see Configuring user roles and privileges.
Then, configure the SVM in VSC:
- If the storage is already being discovered as a cluster:
- Select the discovered storage cluster, and then click ACTIONS > Modify.
- Fill in the SVM login information in the Modify Storage System dialog box.
- If the storage is not yet discovered by VSC:
- Add a storage system to VSC by using the VSC home page:
- Click Storage Systems > Add, or
- Click Overview > Getting Started, and then click ADD button under Add Storage System.
- In the Add Storage System dialog box, enter the management IP address and credentials for the SVM.
- Click OK after you have added all of the required information.
- Add a storage system to VSC by using the VSC home page:
