ESXi host takes a very long time to boot and is stuck on "vmw_vaaip_netapp loaded successfully"

Issue

  • ESXi 7.0 hosts gets stuck for hours upon restart on vmw_vaaip_netapp loaded successfully
  • A shutdown of the ESXi host takes 24 hours
  • The /var/log/boot and /var/run/log/vmkernel.log show clear path timeout issues
  • APD and PDL appear in the vmkernel logs during boot and shutdown
  • Rescanning devices times out
  • Unable to properly unmount datastores and unmount LUN's (timeout)
