A test failover run in SRM reports the following error:
Error- Failed to create snapshots of replica devices.
This error is often followed by further messages specific to the cause of the error. In this article, we cover these variants of that error message:

  1. Error- Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. Failed to create snapshot of replica device /vol/datastore_dr. Creation of temporary writeable copy of the device failed. Ensure that the FlexClone license is enabled for the storage array.
  2. Error- Failed to create snapshot of replica device /vol/datastore_dr. SRA command 'testfailoverStart' failed for device /vol/datastore_dr the server fault 'Extendedfault' had no message'
  3. Error- Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed. Storage port not found Either Storage port information provided in NFS list is incorrect else Verify the "isPv4" option in ontap_config file matches the ipaddress in NFS field.

Unable to add the initiators passed in SRM input to initiator group Ensure that the initiators passed in the SRM input adhere to the required naming convention. For example, ensure that FC has a proper WWPN or WWNN. iSCSI has a proper IQN, and NFS has a proper IPv4 address.
  5. Error - Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. Timed out (300 seconds) while waiting for SRA to complete TestFailover Start command
  6. Error- Failed to create snapshot of replica device /vol/vol_name/lun. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed for device /vol/vol_name/lun. Unable to create the temporary writeable copy. Ensure that the aggregate or parent volume, if using QTrees, has at least as much free space as the size of the volume being cloned. Also, ensure that the aggregate is added to the aggr-list of the SVM.
