Applies to

  • NetApp ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere (OTV) v10.4, v10.5
  • VMware vSphere v8.0.x
  • vVol (Virtual Volume) datastores provisioned via OTV but deleted in vSphere

Issue

  • A user is unable to delete a vVol datastore (e.g. svm_vvol) using the NetApp ONTAP tools (OTV) plugin for vCenter
  • When attempting to do so, the “Delete” button is greyed out and the following message is displayed:

The datastore vm_vvol cannot be deleted because it has 126 vVols associated with it. You should remove all the vVols on the datastore before deleting the datastore.

All LUNs related to vVols (except the Protocol Endpoint LUN) have already been removed

  • Attempts to delete the datastore directly from vCenter or ONTAP leaves a stale datastore entry in the OTV plugin
  • The vVol datastore cannot be removed from the OTV inventory
