Active IQ Unified Manager fails to regenerate or import a certificate with the error "The CN of the host certificate is not valid"

Generating an HTTPS security certificate fails by error:

Certificate could not be regenerated: The certificate input is not valid. Either the Common Name (CN) of the host certificate is not valid or the host certificate does not belong to this host.
