  • SnapManager for Hyper-V (SMHV)
  • Hyper-V Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS)

Answer

  • The .rws and .vss LUNs are leftover from failed SMHV backups where the backup has failed before SMHV can rename the vss snapshot
  • SMHV does not clean up the LUNs which is done if a successful backup happens
  • They can be  safely removed from storage as they are unmapped
