Adding the SMI-S provider in SCVMM fails with the error 'A Hardware Management error has occurred trying to contact server'

Issue

An error occurs when trying to add the SMI-S provider in SCVMM:

A Hardware Management error has occurred trying to contact server <fqdn>

Check that WinRM is installed and running on server <fqdn>. For more information use the command 'winrm helpmsg hresult' and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275
