Description

This article describes the procedure to enable UNIX style SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) authentication.

Note: Data ONTAP version 7.3.2 or later is required for SFTP access; previous versions do not support SFTP.

If SFTP is not configured properly, the following error is seen on the filer console:
Mon Jan 23 11:00:50 EST [filer:sftp.connection.request.failed:error]: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) connection request from client system 10.10.10.10, user sftp_user failed, because the user is not permitted to do SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) operations.
