Answer

  • No, Cloud Volumes ONTAP does not support Azure virtual machine (VM) extensions because they affect BlueXP management operations, though CVO VM shows as Linux (ONTAP version) on the Azure portal, it is not Linux per say.
  • ONTAP leverages a highly customized derivative of the FreeBSD operating system.
  • Starting from BlueXP 3.9.54, NetApp has started enforcing this pre-existing limitation in the form of a notification in BlueXP, as shown below. However, this notification can be dismissed, but will come back in a week's time until actioned.

  • Refer to this Microsoft learn to remove the extensions created on NetApp CVO Images. 
  • If removal of the extensions is unsuccessful, create a case with MSFT support for manual removal.
