Applies to

  • NetApp Console
  • Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO)  AWS
  • CBS (Cloud Backup Service) billing
  • PAYGO (Pay-As-You-Go) consumption
  • Customers who migrated from node-based to capacity-based licensing

Issue

Post migrating from a node-based to a capacity-based (PAYGO) license in BlueXP, customers observe billing charges for Cloud Backup Service (CBS) despite not using CBS. Additionally, charges appear for subscriptions that are not configured in BlueXP or activated in AWS.

Cause

  • Stale entries in Console for the CBS backend database after the license migration can cause CBS consumption to appear and be billed, even if CBS is not in use.
  • Old or orphaned subscriptions that are not properly cleaned up may still be referenced in billing reports, resulting in double charges or charges for inactive subscriptions
  • Connector issues: Running BlueXP Connector on unsupported or under-resourced virtual machines may prevent proper cleanup and synchronization of subscription data.

Solution

Internal Notes

  • NetApp Support will coordinate with the BizOps team to process refunds for extra/unjustified charges.
  • Backend teams will remove stale CBS entries and ensure only active, valid subscriptions are reflected in billing
  • Confirmation will be obtained that CBS is not being charged under Professional license, as backup volumes are included at no extra cost.
