Issue

In NetApp Console backup and recovery, recent backups for specific volumes do not appear in the UI, and the backup status is shown as failed and has not updated, despite SnapMirror transfers successfully completing in ONTAP.

Cause

  • The affected volumes are hosted on HDD-based aggregates which are unable to deliver sufficient performance for SnapMirror transfers.
  • SnapMirror updates take an excessive amount of time, preventing the relationship from entering a healthy state for the minimum duration (1–2 hours) required by BlueXP to register and display new backups.

Solution

  • Move the affected volumes (or the entire aggregate) to SSD-backed storage.
  • Using SSDs will significantly improve SnapMirror transfer performance, allowing relationships to complete within expected timeframes and enter a healthy state, enabling NetApp Console to display current backup information.

Additional Information

  • As a workaround reduce the backup frequency for the affected volumes (e.g., change policy to take only monthly backups instead of weekly and monthly).
  • This gives SnapMirror more time to complete each transfer and increases the likelihood that the relationship will be healthy long enough for NetApp Console to update the backup status.
