Answer

  • There are multiple EventType of maintenance on Azure as below:
    • Freeze: The Virtual Machine is scheduled to pause for a few seconds. CPU and network connectivity may be suspended, but there's no impact on memory or open files.
    • Reboot: The Virtual Machine is scheduled for reboot (non-persistent memory is lost). In rare cases a VM scheduled for EventType:"Reboot" may experience a freeze event instead of a reboot. Follow the instructions above for how to know if the event is complete and it's safe to restore your workload.
    • Redeploy: The Virtual Machine is scheduled to move to another node (ephemeral disks are lost).
    • Preempt: The Spot Virtual Machine is being deleted (ephemeral disks are lost). This event is made available on a best effort basis
    • Terminate: The virtual machine is scheduled to be deleted.
  • The Azure maintenance could lead to a temporary access limit for BlueXP Connector and Single CVO

So, if the upcoming Azure maintenance has been notified and can't be determined it's EventType, it recommends scheduling a maintenance window to complete it to avoid impact happening.

Additional Information

Example mail notification from Azure:

Dear Azure customer,

One or more Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) associated with your subscription require a maintenance update to migrate these VMs to newer hardware. While the vast majority of platform maintenance causes no interruption to your services, this update will require a reboot .

This maintenance has two phases: the self-service phase and a scheduled maintenance phase.

Azure Service Health provides you with the current status of each VM that requires maintenance and allows you to initiate the self-service maintenance proactively – any time between now and October 02, 2024 (23:59 UTC). If self-service maintenance has not been completed by then, Azure will automatically initiate maintenance on any VM that still requires it, sometime between October 03, 2024 (00:00 UTC) to October 09, 2024 (23:59 UTC). This scheduled maintenance will be performed one
