BlueXP Connector VM reported as unavailable from Azure Monitor and 3rd party tool

Issue

The VM running the BlueXP connector in Azure is reported as offline in both Azure Monitoring and 3rd party monitoring tool (Logic Monitor) with alert below:
 

The Azure Resource <azure_VM_name> s reporting an issue with it's availability state (status code: 1.0), placing the host into error state. This started at <timestamp>

Status Codes:
0=Available,
1=Unavailable,
2=Unknown
3=Terminated

Unavailable (Customer Initiated) : Resource health event (Unplanned)
At <timestamp>, the Azure monitoring system received the following information regarding your Virtual machine:
Your virtual machine is unavailable at the moment. Please check back in a few minutes for any updates we find on the source of the unavailability of this VM. No additional action is required from you at this time
