Answer

  • No, it's not possible to delete a S3 bucket containing objects. All objects must be removed before the bucket can be deleted.
  • Some S3 clients have the option to delete a bucket which contains objects by emptying the bucket before deleting the bucket, examples below:

    Starting with StorageGRID 11.4 it is possible to delete empty buckets using the Tenant Manager interface.
  • When deleting a bucket containing data from the Tenant Manager interface, it will report: error 409: Conflict Unable to delete the bucket because it is not empty. You must delete all objects before you can delete this bucket.
