Applies to

  • ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere 9 (OTV)
  • Virtual Storage Console (VSC)

Description

Virtual Storage Console runs a discovery operation against both ESXi hosts and storage systems in the following situations:

  • Daily at a scheduled time
  • When the Virtual Storage Console service is restarted
  • Whenever a change is made with a datastore

While troubleshooting it might prove useful to disable automatic discovery.  A scenario where this could prove useful for example would be:

  • A large environment that has several thousand objects to discover
  • VSC is in a constant state of discovery which may drive up resource utilization on the Unified Appliance or ONTAP Tools for VMware Appliance
  • It may be beneficial to disable discovery in order to troubleshoot a failing operation (perhaps with Storage Replication Adapter or VASA Provider)
