Windows clients using SMB 2.x can still access ~snapshot directory even with "showsnapshot" share property disabled

  • From Windows client ~snapshot directory is accessible even without "showsnapshot" share property set

  • "showsnapshot" share property  is not set for the share "vol1"

::> cifs share show -vserver vs912 -share-name vol1

  • "snapdir-access" is set to true on the volume

  • In Windows client :
    In Registry under the below path there is a DWORD32 "DirectoryCacheLifetime" which is set to zero
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
