Windows clients sporadically freeze due to ungraceful disconnects

Issue

  • On rare occasions, clients are disconnected from their session and freeze for at least 5 minutes which trigger Splunk health check alerts indicating that the "server is not responding" with underlying storage or network failures.
  • The freeze behavior consists of CPU idle, no new RDP/WinRM connections, and all SMB activity hangs indefinitely.
