Storage takeover or giveback failed: operation was vetoed by dump operations

Issue

  • During a Giveback, ONTAP reports a  pause on error due to SFO giveback veto:

Sat Aug 19 05:27:58 -0700 [cluster-01: cf_giveback: sfo.giveback.failed:alert]: Giveback of aggregate aggr1 failed due to Giveback was vetoed..
Sat Aug 19 05:31:03 -0700 [cluster-01: cf_giveback: sfo.sendhome.subsystemAbort:alert]: The giveback operation of 'aggr1' was aborted by 'Dump/Restore'.

  • When takeover is failed, storage failover show-takeover output:

cluster-01 optimized takeover by partner aborted aggr_1          Failed: Operation was vetoed by Dump. 
                                                                 Check the event log

  • For aggregate relocation (ARL), failure message is:

Sat May 22 13:05:45 -0400 [cluster1-01: sfo_arl_worker: arl.subsystemAbort:error]: The relocation operation of 'aggr1' was aborted by 'Dump/Restore'.

  • There are active NDMP sessions:
