High memory usage by user space applications can impact performance
Applies to
- Data ONTAP 8.x
- ONTAP 9
Issue
The mhost processes are UNIX/BSD processes running in the user space and these processes might use excessive memory. Also, their behavior is not different from a user space process running on Linux, UNIX, or FreeBSD. Therefore, tools are available that can be used to identify the memory usage.
The mhost process can be used for any management interaction by using CLI, SSH, SNMP, or ZAPI. Instances of mgwd using large amount of memory has been reported and this issue is caused due to the following reasons:
- Normal memory usage
- Memory leakage that increase over time
