CVO instance not retaining 28 days of performance archive data

Issue

  • CVO and potentially other non on-prem clusters are not retaining the default 28 days of historical performance archive data.
  • Performance archive data is stored on the root volume of each node, a percentage of the total volume size is used to store this data.
  • CVO and potentially other ONTAP instances have smaller root volumes than traditional FAS/AFF nodes therefore less performance archive data is able to be stored. 
  • It can retain data based on the -datastore-max-percent value set.
  • However in certain scenarios the statistics archive config show indicates that PAs are being stored for 28 days but there was not enough space in vol0 to store the 28days data and below error message is seen in EMS logs.

[?]  Wed Jan 24 00:45:01 -0800 [NetApp-01: cmd: ccma.quota.throughput:notice]: The performance archive data collection rate is too high for the amount of space available. The system can only keep 15 days of performance archive data at this rate, and needs 16689 MB of additional space to maintain a system performance history equal to the datastore-max-retention configuration value.
