  • Data ONTAP 8 7-Mode
  • ONTAP 9

Answer

Volume SnapMirror

Notes:

  • Due to a previous ONTAP Release model, SnapMirror source or destination clusters utilizing ONTAP 9.2 or ONTAP 9.4 may have limited compatibility with other major ONTAP Releases.
  • Similarly, cloud-only releases of ONTAP have limited compatibility with other cloud-only releases.
  • Refer to the ONTAP Software Version Support for general information about ONTAP version support and release cadence.
  1. Refer to the following links on the NetApp Support site:
  2. Refer to the following chart for SnapMirror type-XDP relationships which may involve older releases not listed in the above link:
  • Locate the higher, more recent ONTAP version in the left column, remove patch release, and in the top row locate the lower ONTAP version to determine interoperability
  • SnapMirror type-XDP Interoperability is bidirectional. This chart is for SnapMirror type-XDP only
  • Releases with an asterisk (*) are Cloud Volumes ONTAP-only releases
  • SnapMirror destination should be upgrades first

SVM Disaster Recovery (SVM-DR)
  • For SVM-DR, version-independence is not supported. Interoperability follows the Type-DP SnapMirror chart at the Compatible ONTAP versions for SnapMirror relationships page.
  • SVM-DR follows the Type-DP SnapMirror interoperability chart even if the SVM-DR is using Type-XDP.
  • For SVM-DR destination clusters running cloud-only releases, the SVM-DR source cluster is supported to run the previous two major ONTAP releases excluding cloud-only releases.
  • It is recommended to use the same source and destination major ONTAP version for SVM-DR for effective disaster recovery failover and failback scenarios.
Data ONTAP 7mode and 7mode to ONTAP 9 transition SnapMirror

SnapMirror is only supported in the direction from Data ONTAP 7-Mode to Clustered ONTAP 8.x or ONTAP 9. See the 7mode Transition Documentation and the Interoperability Matrix for more details. SnapMirror or SnapVault in the direction from clustered Data ONTAP or ONTAP 9 to Data ONTAP 7-Mode is not supported.

For details on 7-Mode to 7-Mode SnapMirror version interoperability, see Prerequisites for SnapMirror.
