Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.7
  • ONTAP 9.8
  • SVM DR relationship is broken

Issue

  • Potential data loss for SVM-DR with policy type mirror-vault
  • The keep value in the snapmirror policy keeps more snapshots on the destination

Eg. snapshot policy on the source is keeping 5 hourly snapshots, and the snapmirror policy is keeping 50 hourly snapshots on the destination

  • After the SVM-DR is broken, the snapshot policy on the source which have been replicated to the destination becomes active on the destination volume
  • Using the example above, if the snapshot schedule is allowed to kick off on the destination, hourly snapshots will be deleted and only 5 retained

Note: The snapshots are only deleted when the snapshot schedule runs, not when you run snapmirror break
