What is temporary volume type TMP in ONTAP?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
Answer
Because volume moves are potentially long running activities (SnapMirror in the background) a new volume type was created to distinguish the volume not yet in production until cutover.
Once the cutover occurs the volume type changes from TMP to RW and all new read and writes are directed to this new volume.
Note: Volumes of type TMP are not taken into account in OnCommand applications.
